Gov. Crist And Carole Rome Set Wedding Date

Crist and Rome Will Wed On Dec. 12 In St. Petersburg

Crist Proposed To Rome With A Sapphire And Diamond Ring

They Got Engaged July 3
MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) ― Gov. Charlie Crist and his fiancée has set a date for their walk down the aisle.

Crist said Friday that he and Carole Rome will tie the knot December 12 in St. Petersburg. He didn't give any further details. However, after he announced their engagement, Crist said the wedding will likely be an intimate gathering followed by a larger reception at the governor's mansion.

The couple got engaged July 3. He gave her a blue sapphire ring surrounded by diamonds. Crist met Rome less than a year ago and she quickly captured his heart.

Rome, 38, is the president of Franco American Novelty Co., her family's New York-area Halloween costume company, though she stopped managing its daily business when she moved to Fisher Island near Miami in 2006. Crist said they met at a dinner where he and friends were discussing fundraising.

Rumors have swirled that Crist is among the contenders as Senator John McCain's running mate on the Republican ticket. Crist said he and his fiancée have not talked about the possibility of moving to Washington if he's tapped.

Crist took office in January 2007 and previously served as attorney general, education commissioner and in the state Senate.

Rome was previously married to Blue Star Jets president Todd Rome. She has two daughters, aged 9 and 11, but Crist said he hopes the couple has a child of their own someday.
