Theft Charges Refiled Against Delray Beach Priests

Revs. Guinan & Skehan Accused Of Stealing Millions

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Grand theft charges have be refilled against two Delray Beach priests accused of stealing millions of dollars from their church.

Prosecutors contend Father Francis Guinan and Monsignor John Skehan stole more than 8 and a half million dollars from St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Delray Beach in a span of over 40 years. Monsignor Skehan allegedly used the money to buy property and other assets. Guinan reportedly spent his share on his girlfriend, gambling trips to Las Vegas and the Bahamas, and to send his girlfriend's son to parochial school.

An anonymous tip in June 2005 led police and the church to launch the investigation. Both Guinan and Skehan were arrested in 2006; both have pleaded not guilty.

Charges against both men were dropped earlier this year to give prosecutors and the men's defense attorneys more time to prepare.
