Fire Captain Wanted By Feds For Mortgage Fraud
Gamaliel N. Souffrant Wanted On Mortgage Fraud Charges
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
A captain with the Miami Fire Rescue Department may not want to return from vacation any time soon. The fire official, identified as Gamaliel N. Souffrant, is wanted by federal agents on mortgage fraud charges connected to alleged drug trafficking in South Florida, authorities said Monday.

The Miami Herald reports Souffrant, a 19-year veteran, is out of state but expected to surrender to FBI and IRS agents as soon as he returns.
Souffrant, 43, of Miramar, has been charged along with three others, including his wife and his brother, Garry Souffrant, a minister who also works as a supervisor with Boca Raton Fire Rescue, states The Herald.
The brother, Souffrant's wife and one other person were arrested on Friday in connection with the alleged mortgage fraud and drug scheme.
Fire Rescue Lt. Ignatius Carroll would not comment about the case because the department had not seen the charges.
"It has nothing to do with his position as a fire captain," Carroll told
The Herald.
