TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ― Florida Governor Charlie Crist has declared a State of Emergency as the third tropical weather system in three weeks comes closer to Florida.

In a news conference Tuesday morning, Gov. Crist said Floridians must now turn their attention to Hanna.

"This morning I have issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency due to the threat of Hanna to the state of Florida. This order will ensure timely precautions are taken to protect communities and the general welfare of our state as well as initiate measures to provide other assistance to other states in need."

State emergency workers are still helping with recovery from Tropical Storm Fay's flooding and aiding Gulf Coast states hit by Hurricane Gustav but Crist emphasized it's time to pay attention to Hanna.

"Hanna became the third tropical system to threaten our state in the last three weeks alone," said Crist.

The governor also warned everyone to stay out of the water due to dangerous rip currents. Three deaths were attributed to rip currents along South Florida beaches this past weekend.
