Trial: Harassing A Woman He Claims Gave Him Herpes
He's Accused Of Distributing Fliers Showing Her Having Sex
Deliberations Are Set To Continue Monday
BROWARD (CBS4) ―
The jury in the case of a man on trial for allegedly harassing his ex-girlfriend, because he said she gave him genital herpes, has begun deliberations in the case. Hance Adams, 34, is accused of mass distributing flyers that show the woman's face under the words, "disease carrier."
He's being prosecuted under an obscure law: maliciously disseminating information of a sexually transmitted disease. Even though Adams knew about the sexually transmitted disease, it wasn't a problem until the relationship ended.
Then police say Adams extracted his revenge, faxing the flyers to the woman's workplace and plastering them outside her son's middle school. On Wednesday, t
he woman's son spoke in court. He said in 2003, when he was 12, riding his bike to Plantation Middle School, he said he was shocked to see his mother on a flyer.
"I saw a picture of a guy and a woman. I didn't want to believe it was my mom on a pornography flyer.. I was crying on the way home."
The flyer showed his mother having sex under the words, "disease carrier."
Prosecutors accuse Adams of distributing the flyers to the school, to his mother's workplace and even all their neighbors after contracting genital herpes from the woman after going through a nasty break-up.
The boy's mother said she's doing it for one reason. She told CBS4 Joan Murray, "I felt strongly to do this five years later for my son."
Adams has been free on bond since his arrest. He's married now and a father himself.
His lawyers have tried to cast doubt that Adams distributed the flyers.
