Hialeah Park was a gem of the 1920's, but it closed in 2001 after lack of interest and gamblers that would support horse racing.

The Hialeah Park racetrack is only days from reopening after nearly a decade of being closed. The horses are back, getting ready for the reopening of The Hialeah Park and Race Course next weekend.
The track has been quiet for eight years. Hurricanes damaged the race track that's been around since the 1920's, but after tough times it was forced to close in 2001. Now, after two months of renovations, the park is looking like new and providing more than just a place for horse lovers. It's providing hundreds of construction jobs.
The development of The Hialeah Park and Race Course will be done in phases over the course of five years, which means more construction jobs here in South Florida.
The owner John Brunetti Jr. said, "During the course of construction, we'll employ anywhere from 700 to 1000 people regularly for about 5 years."
But with the reopening of the race track, the owner is hoping that casino gaming is on the horizon.
"I think the coming legislative session will solve all of the unknowns." said Brunetti. Until that day comes, it's all about horses and the legendary flamingos taking back the track that was once theirs.
The Hialeah Park and Race Course is set to open Saturday, November 28th.
