Cold Stone Ice Cream Benefits Sick Children

MIAMI (CBS4) ― I scream, you scream, we all scream for free ice cream. Cold Stone Creamery hosted what it called 'the world's largest ice cream social' Thursday night as part of its month long fundraising promotion for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

For three hours, every customer received a free 3-ounce serving of one of two treats created by children in the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Customers got to choose between "Emily's Creation", made with Nutter Butter ice cream mixed with yellow cake, KitKats and white chocolate chips, or "Jack's Creation", made with marshmallow ice cream mixed with Oreos, chocolate chips and fudge.

While the ice cream was free, donations were accepted for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This was the seventh year for the event which has so far raised more than $3 million for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

It's not known how much was raised this year in South Florida, the accountants are still adding it all up but in previous years when this event was held, $20,000 was raised in South Florida, which is enough to grant the wishes of four local children who have "life-threatening medical conditions."

The average cost to fulfill a wish is $5,000. Most children request trips to Disney World. Other wishes include travel, shopping sprees, meeting a celebrity, and computers or electronics.
