MIAMI (CBS4) ―
"He was very dedicated in his police work," said Katinah Boursiquot, 30, widow of Miami Police Detective James Walker on Wednesday from inside her North Miami Beach apartment.
She explained to
CBS4 Peter D'Oench that she heard gunfire Monday night, and knew her husband was in danger.
"It's devastating. They're people, too, and all they're trying to do is help others," she added. "It's sad that they lose their lives so we might have better ones."
Det. Walker, her husband of nine years, died in a hail of gunfire as he was coming home late in the evening after finishing his shift as a domestic violence detective. He was killed in his unmarked police car, in an alley.
Police say he may have stumbled onto a crime in progress, or may have been mistaken for someone else.
Katinah is still in shock over the death, "I'm saddened. He was a very good person".
She displayed photographs of how they spent New Year's together at her parent's home. But she realized they are but memories she will never have again.
"I'm never going to see my husband again. That's the most painful, the most shocking thing."
She went on to say that she would hope he didn't die in vain, that he loved being a police officer. "He was shy and reserved."
