Flag Of Honor Flies For Miami Officer Walker

MIAMI (CBS4) ― After the September 11, 2001, attacks, an American flag from Texas was brought to Ground Zero in honor of the fallen firemen and police officers.  The flag has since traveled the world to honor all American heroes, and arrived in Miami on Wednesday. It will fly in memory of fallen Miami Police Det. James Walker.

The United States Flag of Honor arrived at Miami International Airport at noon amid an honor guard ceremony and a water canon salute.

It was driven by motorcade to the City of Miami Headquarters, where Chief John Timoney presented it to  the Walker family in a late afternoon ceremony where it was hoisted on a flagpole to honor his memory.   Thirty-year-old Walker, who had been with the force since 2000, was found shot to death in his unmarked police car in early January at 1801 Northeast 164th Street.

Detectives believe that Walker drove into the middle of gunfire in the alley behind his wife's apartment complex and when he went to investigate, was shot and killed.
