There's controversy surrounding a brand new high school set to open in North Miami in the fall. It's not the school itself but the name of the school that's getting a lot of attention.
The city council wants to name the school, currently called QQQ-1 after former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno. But the county's school naming committee voted to name it after former Miami Heat basketball star Alonzo Mourning and his wife, Tracy.
The decision is not sitting well with some city officials.
"The naming of the QQQ-1 school is something that was very important to our mayor and council, and they passed a resolution in 2006 to endorse or persuade the school board to name the school after Janet Reno," said Pam Soloman from the City of North Miami.
The Miami-Dade County School Board is expected to make the final decision when they meet on Wednesday.
