South Florida Workforce Of Miami-Dade: 1-800-204-2418
HIALEAH GARDENS (CBS4) ―
With economic concerns come job concerns. In the month of August alone Miami-Dade County's unemployment rate was the highest it's been in five years, but you can do some things to make yourself more marketable for a job.
Ruth Matias is an out of work phlebotomy technician who has been looking for a job since August. She's been sending out resumes by email, calling, and showing up in person but she say's it's getting tough to find a job.
Matias hopes her days spent at the Hialeah Gardens Workforce Center, and the advice she and others in her position are getting from job coach Hada Morales, pays off soon.
"If you have a good attitude, good preparation, good resume and an open mind, you are ready to find a job," said Morales. "For example, you are a teacher and you now don't have a job, maybe you can do another thing such as customer service."
Morales says traffic has more than doubled at the Hialeah Gardens Workforce Center, and says they're seeing everyone from laborers to professionals looking for a job, any job.
"If you have to take something an an interm basis, that's not up to what you're used to doing, that's ok, you just dont' have to settle for that," said Bennett Taylor.
Taylor is a talent management expert and says having a plan is crucial and knowing where to look for employment.
"The internet is a good source, and it bets better all the time, the networking facilities, facebook linkedin," said Taylor.
Both Taylor and Morales say equally important is keeping your spirits up.
