BSO Arrests Two Men In Stolen Johnny Walker Case

WESTON (CBS4) ― Police have arrested the second suspect they were seeking for allegedly stealing a pricey bottle of Johnny Walker whiskey from a Weston store.

BSO confirmed that 43-year-old Richard Goldstein turned himself in at the main jail on Tuesday after the theft of the $3,500 bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label.

The owner of the Weston liquor store was probably feeling very blue after the bottle of 200th Anniversary Johnnie Walker Blue Label was stolen. This is the most exclusive and most expensive Johnnie Walker product. There were only six distributed in the state of Florida and this bottle was priced at $3,500.

The theft took place at Master Wine Liquor, located at 4569 Weston Rd. in Weston on Friday, October 30th.

It was about 6:00 p.m., when police say a man walked into the store, grabbed the collector's item, shoved it into his pants and calmly walked out of the Weston liquor store undetected. And it wasn't the first time.

The heavy-set man wearing a striped shirt did a couple of trial runs before going after the pricey bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue.

He stole a $70 bottle of Grey Goose vodka, shoved it in his pants and walked out of the store. After putting the bottle of vodka in his car, he returned to steal a bottle of Pinot Noir.

When he had enough practice, a female accomplice distracted the store employee as the man pried open the door of the plexi-glass case containing the rare bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue and took the bottle out. He stuck it into his pants and replaced it with a display bottle. Then he grabbed the Baccarat crystal decanter that accompanied the limited edition bottle, and stuffed the decanter into his pocket. Moments later, he and the woman, left the store.

Store employees didn't notice their pricey bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue was missing until Monday, November 2, but the entire heist was caught on surveillance video.

The other suspect who was arrested in connection to the crime is 36-year-old Charles Lennon of Coral Springs.

Officials say a man tipped them, telling them they the bottle was given to him by Goldstein to be sold at an auction. The man safeguarded the bottle and returned it to BSO. It has since been returned to its rightful owner.
