MDC Receives $11M Donation For Nursing Shortage

Nearly 600 New Nurses Will Be Trained Over Next 4 Years

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Miami-Dade College received an historic donation Tuesday. The Mitchell Wolfson Sr. Foundation, along with a matching grant from the State of Florida, donated $11 million to the MDC School of Medicine. It's one of the largest single gifts ever made to Miami Dade College and one of the largest in higher education.

The money is aimed at addressing the region's nursing shortage. The money will be used to establish student scholarships, help with instructional costs and provide faculty with salary incentives. It will also help students prepare and pass their board exams.

Over the next four years, nearly 600 new nurses will be trained at the college because of the donation.
