New Info Released In UM Student's Death

Edward Pieron Turned 21 Years Old The Day Before He Died

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) ― The mother of a University of Miami student found dead in a pool of blood over the weekend is speaking out about his tragic murder.

The body of Eddie Pieron was found Saturday in a south Miami home he shared with several room mates. The day before he celebrated not only the 4th of July, but also his 21st birthday.

Pieron's mother, Pamela Bailey, said he was supposed to fly to California this week to join his family for a wedding. Instead, they are planning his funeral.

"We were going to go to Hawaii for his cousin's wedding, he was all excited about it," said Bailey. "Nothing is worth whatever it was. A stupid dispute or some money, nothing is worth a human life."

Tuesday, police released a store's surveillance tape which shows Pieron walking into a CVS Pharmacy near his home early Saturday.

Hours later Pieron's girlfriend found his body lying in a pool of blood inside a home in the 8-thousand block of Southwest 62 Place.

She told police she was supposed to get together with Pieron on Saturday afternoon, but he never showed up. When she went to check on him, she found his body inside the house. She ran to a nearby house and told neighbors to call 911. Richard Silva, new to the neighborhood, placed the call.

"When we answered the door there was a young girl there saying she needed some help," he said. "She could borrow a phone, her friend was bleeding. I told my wife to grab the First-Aid kit and follow me."

Silva did not realize how seriously the man had been wounded.

"We got to the house, she got inside the door and as I got to the door I noticed a lot of blood on the floor, some blood splatters, some bloody footprints and smears," he said. "I saw the victim, the body I guess you would say lying in a red, large pool of blood."

Neighbors watched Sunday evening as police hazardous materials crews removed blood-stained furniture from the home.

Pieron, who was a biology student at UM, said on his MySpace page that he enjoyed drinking, smoking, parties and working out. He and his roommates had a party on Friday, the 4th of July, but neighbors said there was nothing unusual about it.

"They were shooting fireworks in the street and in the back, it was the 4th of July, pretty expected I guess," said neighbor Justin Woodward.

If you have any information or tip, no matter how small, for police regarding the crime, please call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers: 305-471-TIPS.
