Is The Pleasure Gone At Disney's Pleasure Island?

Disney To Close 6 Pleasure Island Clubs After Sept. 27.

It's Part Of A Major Renovation Of Downtown Disney

ORLANDO (CBS4) ― Walt Disney World plans to close six nightclubs in its Pleasure Island entertainment district.

Disney will shut down the clubs, which include BET SoundStage Club, Mannequins Dance Palace and 8Trax, after Sept. 27, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Pleasure Island was launched 19 years ago.

Company officials said Friday they have a "bold new vision" for all of the tourist-friendly retail district called Downtown Disney. Officials said customers say they want more broad-based dining and retail options.

The company also said it's adding a new attraction, a giant, tethered balloon that would take guests 300 feet into the air for views of the Disney property, as well as new and renovated restaurants.

One of those restaurants is called "T-Rex: A Prehistoric Family Adventure" and will feature life-sized animated dinosaurs and there are plans for a Hanes Store that allows people to design their T-shirts.

The restaurants and shops on Pleasure Island are expected to stay open during the renovations.
