Funeral For Fallen Miami Soldier
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Funeral services were held Monday for a Miami soldier who died serving his country in Iraq.
23-year old Private First Class Marius Ferrero of Miami was killed in a bomb blast while on patrol in Baqubah. He had only been in Iraq for four days. Two other soldiers were killed with Ferrero - all were members of the 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division based out of Ft. Lewis in Washington.
Ferrero's funeral was held at 10:30am at St. Raymond Catholic Church at 3475 Southwest 17th Street in Miami.
"I think the devil is everywhere, because this can't be God. God is very good and is all love," said Ferrero's mother, Maribel.
The family learned Marius was to leave for Iraq before the holidays, so he requested to have a Thanksgiving dinner a week before the holiday with his family.
Tearfully, Maribel added, "Maybe, he was saying goodbye to us."
She spent time chatting with her son on a social networking site hours before he was killed.
"He said he was going to have dinner and he didn't see anybody there. Maybe the guys were sleeping already."
Ferrero is survived by his mother and his older brother Manny Ferrero.
