Suspected Impersonator Arrested By Police
KENDALL (CBS4 News) ―
Miami-Dade police arrested a man who they say was pretending to be one of their own and stopped motorists in fake traffic stops.
Police arrested Roy Kostja, a resident of Westchester, at the 8400 block of Southwest 40th Street in Kendall Wednesday and charged him with impersonating a police officer. They say Kostja was driving a Silver Ford F-150 equipped with several flashing blue lights and a siren. He would use it to stop unsuspecting motorists under the excuse of carrying out a traffic stop for infractions. He would then let them go under the pretext of giving them a warning.
Police say in one incident he even displayed a gun. They do not have reports of him stealing or taking anything from victims.
Officers caught Kostja when they spotted him driving at a high rate of speed with lights and sirens and conducted a traffic stop of their own. Inside the truck they found police jackets, a police badge, handcuffs, a baton and gun
Anyone who may have been stopped by the subject is asked to call Detective Cort Sprague at the Miami-Dade Police Department Kendall Station at (305) 270-3824.
