Miami Gets Two New Tools For Traffic Enforcement
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
The city of Miami Police department unveiled two new tools to help stop speeders in their tracks on Monday.
Two 2008 Dodge Chargers equipped with front and rear radar detectors are expected to help them crack down on aggressive and speeding drivers more effectively. The two unmarked vehicles will be used over the holiday as part of Operation Wolf Pack.
The goal is to keep drivers safe, and most importantly, to cut down on traffic fatalities.
Officer Ricardo Amaro works the traffic division, usually on a motorcycle, but he enjoys driving the new unmarked cars. He said, "With this vehicle we can kind of blend in with regular traffic, and it gives us that ability, that element of surprise."
The Dodge Chargers can get up to 160 mph. Both cars were purchased with a grant that was given to the Florida Department of Transportation. FDOT then teamed up with the Miami Police Department to purchase the vehicles.
Traffic related deaths have been on the decline in Miami the past six years, thanks to programs aimed at cutting down on aggressive and drunk drivers.
