The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a missing passenger from the Miami-based cruise ship Norwegian Pearl. They're searching about 15 miles east of Cancun, Mexico.
According to the Coast Guard, the husband of 36-year old Jennifer Feitz reported her missing to cruise ship security personnel around 3:50 a.m. Friday.
"Initial reports indicate the guest may have gone overboard while the ship was at sea, east of Cancun," an NCL spokeswoman said in a statement.
Cruise ship personnel conducted a comprehensive search of the ship. When they didn't find her, they contacted the Coast Guard for assistance.
Coast Guard search and rescue coordinators in Miami launched an Air Station Miami HU-25 Falcon jet crew to search. A C-130 fixed-wing aircraft crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater is also scheduled to assist in the search. In addition, the Mexican government has a helicopter crew and three surface-asset crews also searching for the missing woman.
According to the NCL website, the Norwegian Pearl left the Port of Miami on December 21st on a 7-day trip to the Western Caribbean. The ship is due back at the Port of Miami on Sunday December 28th.
