Stinky Space Suit Forces NASA To Suspend Walks

HOUSTON (CBS4) ― All spacewalks are on hold until NASA can figure out why a spacesuit smelled of smoke.

During testing Friday, the scent became apparent while testing the suit in Houston.

While early examinations have not been able to pin-point the source of the odor, engineers have some ideas about what may be causing it. Possible sources include the suit's carbon dioxide-scrubbing canister and the off-gassing of heated materials.

Mission control hopes to have the ban lifted by Wednesday afternoon so astronauts aboard the International Space Station can proceed with several planned walks next week.
