Widow Kills Intruder/Suspect in Husband's Death

Orlando Mesa Was Murdered April 20th; His Killers Are Still On The Loose

North Miami Mother Nearly Loses It All

Deceased Is Identified As 27-year-old Ilan Lodi Nissiem

NORTH MIAMI (CBS4) ― Last month, Orlando Mesa was murdered while holding his son in his arms, and tragedy has struck the North Miami family again; this time in the form of an alleged intruder being shot dead by Orlando's widow.

Detectives have told CBS4 Peter D'Oench the man shot and killed by Janepsy Mesa was a suspect in her late-husband's killing.

Mesa was shot while walking in front of the Claude Pepper Park right outside his home by NW 135th Street on April 20th--his 2-year-old boy still in his arms. A car driven by two men pulled up and shot at him, hurting his boy as well. The boy recovered, but Mesa did not.

"She left the door open; when she turned around there was a white male standing there," said Lt. Neal Cuevas with North Miami Police. "Some words were exchanged and for whatever reason, we don't know right now were still investigating right now. She shot and killed him."

The person killed was identified as 27-year-old Ilan Lodi Nissiem, an acquaintance of Mesa's late husband. She is not facing any charges, as police have determined that the shooting was in self-defense.

Police have not found a motive for Orlando Mesa's murder, saying it appears he was targeted. Now police are pondering if it's a coincidence, or something more, that this home is now subject to two shootings in a month's time.
