Kiss For A Cure With The "Pucker Up Project"

Pop Artist Creating Interactive Art Called "Pucker Up Project"

Money To Be Donated To Sylvester Throat & Lip Cancer Research Center

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A South Florida artist is paying more than lip service to a local effort to fight cancer. He is donating his art in exchange for a kiss.

Pop artist Perry Milou loves lips. "They are very sensual and very sexy," explains Milou to CBS4's Jorge Estevez. "They are very colorful and have totally different shapes and are totally Miami."

Milou is the man behind the "Pucker Up Project", a project that has him creating an interactive masterpiece that is also a fundraiser for cancer research.

The project came out of Milou's own cancer scare three years ago. He had a pituitary tumor removed from the base of his brain a little more than three years ago.

So after his scare, he developed the "Pucker Up Project". It entails a series of 8x8 foot canvases which are divided into brightly colored grids. Each square on the grid is being sold for $100 and the buyer gets to pucker up and kiss the canvas square, their lips imprinted on the grid forever.

Milou even figured out a fool proof way of getting the lip prints onto the canvas. He gives Pucker Up participants at a sheet of paper and they make as many puckers as they want. Then, it's made into a proof sheet and the participant gets to pick the pucker that they are most happy with.

The goal is to raise $150,000 by having 1,500 people pucker up.

"People love it. When they come in the gallery they are taken away by the art itself and when I explain it to them they say what a great idea," said Milou.

The interactive art project will either be auctioned or raffled off during Art Basel and all proceeds will be donated to the Sylvester Throat and Lip Cancer Research Center.

You can make a kiss for a cure at the Milou Gallery located at 17 NW 36th Street in the Wynwood Art District in Miami.
