Former Hospital Workers Charged In Kickback Scheme

MIAMI (AP) ― Three former Miami hospital workers face criminal charges in an alleged $7 million kickback scheme.

The former Kendall Regional Medical Center employees were charged Thursday with conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Also involved is the now-bankrupt Pharmed medical supply company, which was once the eighth-largest Hispanic-owned business in America.

They face 20 years in prison if convicted. Their lawyers say the three are cooperating with prosecutors.

Prosecutors allege the three placed phony orders for medical supplies that were never delivered.

The hospital stopped using Pharmed after the alleged kickback scheme was discovered.

Several more unidentified co-conspirators are also involved in the case.
