Man Accused Of Threatening To Blow Up MIA

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) ― Police arrested a Boca Raton man for allegedly making two phone calls to Miami International Airport threatening to bomb it last week.

According to the Miami-Dade County Department of Corrections, 36-year-old Fredis Ariza is being held in the Dade County Jail, pending $7,500 bond. He allegedly made two calls on a cell on Thursday, October 9th, threatening to blow up the airport. The next day President George Bush visited Miami and arrived through Miami International Airport.

Ariza works at a local fitness center, and police say he used a cell phone from the center to call in these threats.

No one answered the door at Ariza's Boca Raton apartment. Neighbors say they saw Ariza every now and then, usually walking with a child and possibly family members.

Dustin Ezell lives on the floor above Ariza.

"That's nuts," said Ezell. "That's in my neighborhood. That's here. That's crazy."

It's not known if Ariza knew the president would be at the airport the next day.

He is being charged with threatening to blow or place a bomb.

We do not know if police found any weapons or bomb making materials at Ariza's apartment or anywhere else.
