Former President Bush Reels In Huge Tarpon In Keys

ISLAMORADA (CBS4) ― Former President George H. W. Bush, caught and released a mammoth tarpon Saturday, April 19, 2008, while fishing in the Florida Keys near Islamorada.

Estimated to weigh 135 pounds, the gamefish was the largest tarpon Bush, 84, has ever caught.

Even though the boat had a legal State of Florida harvest tag, a decision was made to release the fish alive and have a reproduction mount commissioned. The fiberglass mount will hang in the Presidential Library at Texas A&M University.

Bush wrapped up a weekend angling trip to the Keys Sunday.

The President was fishing with Andy Mill, a former Olympic skier, accomplished saltwater fly fisherman and angling friend of Bush. They were both guided by Captain George Wood.
