$350,000 Reward Being Offered For Information That Leads To The Killer
BOCA RATON (CBS4) ―
The Boca Raton mother and daughter murder case that occurred in December has some students at Florida Atlantic University on alert.
"It's really weird and serious at the same time because you never know if a serial killer is just going to pop out of nowhere," said one female student.
Some experts think that three violent crimes, linked by the motive of robbery are linked to the same suspect, including the double murder. Because of the proximity of the mall where the dead victims were found to FAU, students have been put on alert.
"I don't think this is a serial killer," said Forensic Psychologist Dr. Harley Stock. "A serial killer is someone who is psychologically or often sexually motivated to specifically pick a target. I think this is a sequential killer."
Stock thinks that he is not targeting one specific type of person, but instead is looking specifically to commit robberies.
"He's motivated by a monetary perspective."
The Boca Raton Police Department teamed up with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office earlier this month to create a task force focused on recent high profile cases, including the mother and daughter who were found dead at the Town Center Mall shortly before Christmas.
The task force will not only investigate the murders at Town Center Mall, but also the murder of Randi Gorenberg.
Gorenberg, 52, was shot and killed in Palm Beach County on March 23rd, 2007. She was last seen leaving the Town Center Mall walking toward her vehicle in the middle of the afternoon.
Police believe she got in her Mercedes GL450 SUV but may have been carjacked. Her SUV was driven to Delray Beach, about five miles away, where she was shot in the head and dumped in the street in broad daylight.
On December 12th, someone killed Nancy Bochicchio, 47, and her 7-year-old daughter, Joey Bochicchio-Hauser. The mother and daughter were robbed, bound and then shot to death, and their bodies were found in their SUV in the parking lot of the Town Center Mall during the height of the holiday shopping season.
Investigators have also speculated that the Bochicchios' killer may be the same person who robbed and bound a mother and 2-year-old son at gunpoint in their SUV in the same mall parking lot August 7th. They were not shot.
Another woman was robbed at gunpoint near her vehicle in a parking lot at Mizner Park on August 10th and police think all of the cases are similar.
The Task Force is described as a way to improve communication and coordination between the two agencies in order to try and solve these cases. The task force will be based in Boca Raton.
If you have any information for investigators please call Palm Beach County Crimestoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS.
