Caught On Tape: Man Murdered At Claude Pepper Park

Victim Identified As Robert Tombo

He Was An Honorary Sheriff's Deputy From Youngstown, Ohio

NORTH MIAMI (CBS4) ― North Miami police hope surveillance video will help catch the gunman who killed a Sheriff's deputy from Ohio. Video released by police shows a man walking up to a white van which was parked at Claude Pepper Park on NW 13th Avenue and 135th Street. The man talks to the victim inside the van for a moment, then pulls out a gun and shoots him.

Police were called to the scene around 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19th and discovered the van with several gunshots in it. Then they spotted the dead man slumped over inside, apparently killed from a gunshot wound.

Police have identified the victim as 49-year-old Robert Tombo. He was an honorary sheriff's deputy from the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department in Youngstown, Ohio and the father of three teenage daughters.

If you have any information that can help police solve this crime, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
