North Miami police hope surveillance video will help catch the gunman who killed a Sheriff's deputy from Ohio. Video released by police shows a man walking up to a white van which was parked at Claude Pepper Park on NW 13th Avenue and 135th Street. The man talks to the victim inside the van for a moment, then pulls out a gun and shoots him.
Police were called to the scene around 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19th and discovered the van with several gunshots in it. Then they spotted the dead man slumped over inside, apparently killed from a gunshot wound.
Police have identified the victim as 49-year-old Robert Tombo. He was an honorary sheriff's deputy from the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department in Youngstown, Ohio and the father of three teenage daughters.
