Rock For Troops: Tribute To Our Heroes
Finnegan's On The River, 401 SW 3rd Avenue In Downtown Miami
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
The City of Miami "rocked out" for troops serving overseas and their families left behind. Saturday, Miami Commissioner Joe Sanchez honored local veterans at the "Rock For Troops: Tribute to our Heroes" event, which benefits the work of the
Family Ties Foundation. The non-profit organization, dedicated to meeting the needs of the families of wounded soldiers, hosted Saturday's fundraiser, with the support of the City of Miami and Commissioner Sanchez.
It's all took place at Finnegan's on the River, located at 401 SW 3rd Avenue in downtown Miami.
The "Rock for Troops Tribute" featured four local rock bands, including a popular local middle school band, "Empty Presence", Indie rock band, "The Homecoming", and popular classic rock cover bands, "The Fire Brigade Band" and "Crazy Talk".
The evening also featured DJ Shane in between band performances, as well as the presentation of colors by the FIU Color Guard. A special tribute to all of our local military families with gift recognition to wounded soldiers on behalf of the City of Miami also took place
Admission to the event was free, with an option to donate at the door and in return, guests received a discount coupon from Finnegan's. Raffle tickets were also sold with opportunities to win prizes from businesses such as Hooters, Miami Scuba Adventures, The Adrienne Arsht Center, Harley Davidson and more.
Several donations were auctioned off, including a Romero Britto piece and a Royal Palm Resort Miami Beach stay, just to name a few.
The event is described as a great opportunity for the Miami community to rally together and show their support for our troops and the sacrifices that they make, as well as to help raise much needed funds to continue providing the families of wounded soldiers with the financial assistance that they need as they face economical hardships while coping with the trauma and stress of a wounded service member.
