What is described as the world's largest and most innovative cruise ship has arrived at her new home port in Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.
Royal Caribbean International's "Independence of the Seas" is the third ship in the line's famed Freedom-class, the largest in the world.
Having spent her inaugural season in Europe, Independence of the Seas reset the record as the largest cruise ship to make a revenue trans-Atlantic crossing when she arrived at Port Everglades early Wednesday morning.
Independence features all of the signature Freedom-class innovations including a FlowRider surf park, an interactive water park, cantilevered whirlpools, a full size ice-skating rink, a rock climbing wall on the top deck, a 14-person suite and a boxing ring at sea.
The ship carries approximately 20 percent more guests than any other cruise ship that homeports in Port Everglades. Independence of the Seas is expected to have a positive economic impact on Port Everglades.
She'll sail Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Port Everglades.
