Carol City Teacher Shot Likely To Undergo Surgery

MIAMI GARDENS (CBS4) ― The algebra teacher who was shot on the side of his chest outside Carol City Senior High School remained in critical condition Tuesday night.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported Sergio Miranda to Jackson Memorial Hospital, after he was shot on the side of his chest. He was alert and talking upon transport, and police say this was crucial in their gathering of information.

"The victim was able to give some information to detectives here at the hospital, and they're working those leads as we speak," said Detective Roy Rutland with MDPD.  "That was important; it was important that we're able to speak to him, and it's my understanding from the investigators is that we were able to get some information from him."

Miranda has taught at the school for the last four years, and all students CBS4 News spoke to liked him.  It is likely that he will undergo surgery, but Miranda's family requested that no more information be released to the media by the hospital.
