People go online every day to do everything from checking e-mail to connecting with old friends. But with the economy forcing many to tighten their wallets, why not log on to the Internet to save some money.
Sharon Harvey Rosenberg knows how to navigate her way around the Internet to save some cash. She has a money saving column in the Miami Herald, a news partner with CBS4, and she has her own blog, The Frugal Duchess.
Rosenberg says you can click your way to savings. Beyond eBay, there is a whole world of resources out there.
First up would be saving at the grocery store. Most people's mothers cut coupons, but in 2008, anyone with a computer can download them.
"I
f you are a coupon queen, there are sites where you can download coupons. There are even databases where you can log in your zip code and find out a regional data base on who has the best deals," said Rosenberg.
Go to the Coupon Mom and type in your zip code and start printing coupons for deals in your neighborhood. One can receive downloads, e-mails, alerts about all kinds of deals. The deals include sites for free samples and free shipping offers.
Next savings tip are gift cards. In 2006, over $26-billion were spent on gift cards.
So if someone's wallet is full of cards from stores, log onto swapagift and sell your plastic.
"T
here's a secondary market for everything. You take your gift card, it's actually cash and you sell it at a discount. You are not going to get dollar for dollar but you can sell it at a discount," said Rosenberg.
One can also swap it for other cards, too. But always shop from a site that is reputable.
"Consumer beware you have to go to a fair and reputable site because you can end up buying a card that is expired. The best sites guarantee the card or what you paid for it," said Rosenberg.
One of the easiest ways to make an extra buck is to sell your old cell phone, which can be found at cellforcash.
"You pop out the battery, ship the phone and the charger. You can't forget the charger. And you ship it to this site and they will give you what they think is a good offer," said Rosenberg.
Some phones, like the Apple iPhone can bring in over $100.
This is also a way to save some other green. "This is a way of recycling. A way to live green and saving green," said Rosenberg.
