An early morning robbery attempt on the streets of Sweetwater ended in gunfire Friday and one man was hospitalized.
According to Miami-Dade and Sweetwater police, who are both investigating the shooting scene, a man was shot near his home around 4:00 a.m. on SW 3rd Street and 113th Avenue.
Police say the man had just parked his car and was walking to his home when a masked man approached him and demanded his money. Then, the masked man shot the victim in the lower abdomen.
Neighbor Leo Companioni told
CBS4's Liv Davalos he saw the whole thing and called police.
"It happened right there in front of my mom's bus. My mom's bus is the one that is parked right there and the kid lives right across the street," said Companioni who went on to describe what he heard. "It was a loud bang. I had just turned off my TV. It was like someone breaking plywood with their bare hands."
The shooting victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma center where he's in stable condition.
No arrests have been made.
