Fire Truck Stolen & Ransacked; Suspect On Tape

DEERFIELD BEACH (CBS4) ― BSO investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying a man caught on camera in the midst of a bold theft. So what did he steal?

According to BSO, the man stole, ransacked and then dumped a Fire Rescue Command Post Vehicle from Deerfield Beach Fire Rescue headquarters, located at 1441 SW 11th Way in Deerfield Beach.

The crime, captured on surveillance video, took place sometime between 3:19 a.m. and 4:05 a.m. on New Year's Day, while the crew was at the scene of an accident.

When the fire house was empty, the man broke in and stole the command truck.

Images from the surveillance camera show the man parading through the fire house's garage. He went into a Fire Rescue ladder truck and stole a fire rescue radio, and then proceeded to the Fire Rescue Command Post vehicle. He started the unit, drove it about 300 yards and parked it across the street from the fire house before ransacking the vehicle and destroying three computer monitors and a printer, among other things.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'8"-6' tall, with a slim build, dark colored hair and dark clothing.

Anyone with information about this incident or who can identify the suspect is asked to call BSO Detective Peter Vaca at (954) 480-4300 or Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS or www.browardcrimestoppers.org.

A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
