Surveillance video from a Tamarac Dunkin' Donuts shows a suspect jumping over the counter to rob the store.
Thanksgiving marked a second robbery shooting at a South Florida Dunkin' Donuts store in a twenty-four-hour period.
On Thursday, Broward Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting at the doughnut shop at 4900 N. State Rd 7 in Tamarac at approximately 9:17 p.m.
The entire confrontation was caught on surveillance video. Two men in hooded sweatshirts made their way from the parking lot into the store. They shot a customer before one assailant jumped over the counter, heading for the register.
The victim was identified as 56-year-old Kiem Huynh. Fire Rescue workers transported him to Broward General Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The eight people in the store at the time were robbed. The suspects tried to open the store's cash register but failed. Unable to get any money, the men fled the scene on foot.
Store owner Bahuder Lakhani said, "I don't know how this happened. We have a security system. They can shut down the door."
Police are searching for the two gunmen. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
On Wednesday evening in another robbery, three people were shot inside a Delray Beach Dunkin' Donuts store, and a fourth person was shot outside. All are expected to recover. A $5,000 reward has been offered in that case.
"My father is 84. He didn't go to the floor fast enough. They just shot him," explained Gary Bornstein. His father was one of the victims at the Delray Beach Dunkin' Donuts. "He comes here every week for a cup of coffee with a friend. Wrong place at the wrong time."
Police said four robbers dressed in black entered the store at 10:22 p.m. Two jumped the counter and ordered an employee to open the register; two others terrorized customers.
In a statement released by Dunkin' Donuts, its corporate communications mentioned a third robbery in Plantation store.
Police have not said if the robberies are connected.
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspects is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
The following statement was released by Dunkin' Donuts:
"All of us at Dunkin' Brands are shocked and saddened to learn of three separate robberies that occurred at Dunkin' Donuts shops in Delray Beach, Plantation and Tamarac, Florida. We are deeply concerned about what appears to be a string of violent armed robberies in the market, and hope the assailants responsible for these tragic crimes are captured swiftly. We are working closely with our franchise owners to support the efforts of the local authorities. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families during this very difficult time. As the situation is still unfolding, we are still discussing how the Dunkin' Donuts family intends to respond."
