Wilton Manors House Of Filth Remains Dirty

WILTON MANORS (CBS4) ― Wilton Manors resident Thomas Miller is upset over the city's pace in cleaning up the trash and feces filled house sitting next to his. It's a house where officials found an elderly woman livingĀ in filth.

"There are open windows and that's where the odor is coming from." Miller told CBS4's Gwen Belton.

It has been almost a month since it was found in that condition; every room in the Wilton Mannors home covered in trash.

40-year-old Paris Martz was living there with his elderly mother. Martz remains in jail charged with neglect. His mother is in an assisted living facility.

Miller says, "I would have thought something would have been done immediately, either board it up or clean up the inside."

A few days after the discovery, a team of workers cleaned the outside, but since then not much else had been done.

However, City Commissioner Scott Newton says he's been told the city can't go any further without the county's approval, due to legal issues. There is a hearing with the county unsafe structures board on November 16th.

Newton says, " Somewhere, something dropped through the cracks and we're working hard on that not happening again."

In the meantime, Thomas Miller just wants something done about the smell.

Commissioner Newton says he'll check into getting the windows closed, to at least clean up the air for now.
