The 20th Annual AIDS Day Will Be Observed On Monday In More Than 220 Countries
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
The message of safe sex, testing and staying vigilant will be part of rallies, marches and health fairs related to the 20th annual AIDS Day observance Monday.
Half of 91,428 Floridians living with HIV/AIDS are black, and 40 percent are gay or bisexual men, the Florida Department of Health reports.
The same percentages are seen among about 5,500 who get infected annually. Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties ranked in the nation's 10 highest areas for new AIDS cases per capita, as of the latest figures from 2006.
The World Health Organization reports that more than 6,800 people worldwide are infected with HIV every
day, and roughly 33.2 million people are estimated to be living with HIV or
AIDS around the globe.
