Air-Fare Bargains Have Gotten Harder To Find

Finding The Right Discount On Airfares Is One Of The Most Rewarding Moments Of The Travel Experience

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Whether traveling from coast-to-coast or looking for discount international tickets, there are bargains out there to find the absolute best and cheapest tickets available.

This year, it may be harder to find an inexpensive fare. "The tickets now are much more expensive as the economy is a disaster, I think," commented Robert Musso on air travel. But savvy travelers know there are always bargains to be found in ticket prices.

The following are just a few suggestions:

First, do your homework, then go online and start bargain hunting, or at the very least have a travel agent check all airlines for the best fares.

In some metropolitan areas, a passenger can save big by flying out of a nearby airport, and renting a car.

Always search for fares early in the morning and on weekends. These are the so-called "sneak sales" and they happen quickly, lasting only a few hours.

Try to plan a trip around the lowest fares.  Many airlines charge less if a stay includes a Saturday night. A consumer can find low fares if one is willing to fly on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day.

Always consider the different options when booking a ticket.  For most consumers, booking in advance lets one take advantage of travel bargains.

If someone's not on a deadline and has some flexibility, try to always look for those last-minute, online offers as airlines scramble to fill those empty seats.

Finally, buy a ticket with an airline that will refund the difference if a fare goes down. Some airlines will give you a credit for a future flight.
