FDLE Closes Case On Fake Anthrax Sent To Gov.

Authorities Did Not Locate A Suspect

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ― Nearly a year after Gov. Charlie Crist received a letter with white powder intended to look like anthrax, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has said it found no suspects and closed its investigation.

The powder turned out to be a sugary substance. The DNA tests on the letter did not lead authorities to a suspect.

"DNA is one investigative tool and in this particular case, we did use DNA and it did point us to some folks that our investigators spoke with, but they were ultimately not involved with the case," said Heather Smith, spokeswoman for the FDLE. "In addition, we did use some other forensic techniques. We did some handwriting analysis on the letter and we also ran the letter for latent prints to see if there were any fingerprints on the outside as well."

The contents of the letter said the following: "Boom!! You are dead Charlie. This is a sample of what you got coming!! You Should Have Died in St. Pet But I will kill you Soon very soon no matter what happens to me my people will see this through you are not safe, nor your family I know everything about you we will get you we have the money t"
