Anyone With Information Is Asked To Call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers At (305) 471-TIPS

NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) ― An armored car guard was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital on Tuesday after a shoot out in a CVS parking lot in North Miami.

The guard was making a pick up a the drug store at Northeast 149th Street and Northeast 6th Avenue when he was confronted by two men with assault rifles.

"We understand they opened fire on him immediately," said Miami Dade police spokeswoman Nelda Fonticiella. "He was able to shoot back at them."

While it is not clear if the guard hit the men, he sustained several gunshot wounds to his leg.

"We were inside and then we heard some shots," said Magdalena Cuadraeo who was inside the CVS. "The manager said get down, so everybody got down. Then I ran to the pharmacy and I was inside with the girls in the pharmacy. We were scared they were going to come in the store."

They didn't. Instead the men tried to make an escape in a Jeep Cherokee, but didn't get very far. The driver of the armored car stepped on the gas and crushed the get away vehicle as he pushed it across the parking lot.

"He rammed the vehicle deliberately," said Fonticiella. "The two suspects fled from there and crossed the street. They then got into a white Ford Taurus."

Police set up a perimeter around the store, but were unable to catch the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
