Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is visiting Florida Tuesday, to kick off a three-day campaign swing through the state he gave up publicly campaigning last fall.
Obama pledged nine months ago not to campaign in Florida and Michigan. The national Democratic Party punished the two states for violating its rules by holding January primaries, saying it would not seat their delegates at the national convention this summer.
Obama will have to build relationships in the two states if he wins the Democratic nomination. They are considered critical battlegrounds for the general election.
Republican presidential candidate John McCain is also campaigning in South Florida this week.
The Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting will be in Miami Tuesday to make a policy speech on Cuba.
McCain has campaigned in Florida with the support of Governor
Charlie Crist, whose name has floated as a possible running mate
for the Arizona senator.
