A Florida black bear, spotted twice in Weston and Wellington and then relocated by wildlife officials to Jacksonville has been killed after scaring kids off a basketball court and tearing up a home.
The bear wore an ear-tag embedded by Florida officials naming it SO11. The 300 pound bear was first captured in Weston in May and relocated to a state preserve in Collier County. A month later, the bear showed up in Wellington.
It was then relocated to Jacksonville but apparently moved north and swam across the St. Marys River into Georgia.
Wildlife officials there captured it again and placed the bear in a forest.
But it turned up Saturday in a town called Screven, about 100 miles north of Jacksonville.
It never harmed anyone, but appeared to have no fear of humans.
Ken Boyette shot the bear after consulting wildlife officials. He says he didn't want to but was afraid someone would get hurt.
