Beer Bandit Targets Two Gas Stations

COOPER CITY (CBS4) ― The bandit had a taste for beer and that detail, police hope, will help in his capture.

Broward Sheriff's Office released two surveillance tapes on Friday showing earlier robberies of a gas station bandit. In both cases, the bandit walked away with an undisclosed amount of cash and a case of beer.

In the first robbery at a Citgo Gas Station at 10050 Stirling Road in Cooper City on May 16th, the suspect walked into the store and picked up a 12-pack of Budweiser from a fridge. He gave the cashier 55 cents and then placed his hand at his waistband indicating he might have a weapon. He demanded the money in the register.

The clerk did not see the weapon, but complied with the demand. The suspect ran off with the money and the beer.

A week later – on May 24th – the bandit struck again. This time, he targeted a Shell Gas station on S. Flamingo Road. On that occasion, he grabbed a 24-pack of Corona, walked to the register and demanded the money from the clerk. He told him to lie on the ground and ran off with the money and the beer.

In both cases, the suspect implied he had a weapon, but in both cases it was not seen. The suspect is described as a man in his early to mid 40s. He's said to be of slim build, unshaven, measures about six feet in height and weighs approximately 160 pounds.

In the first incident he wore a baseball cap, sunglasses, blue jeans and a black T-shirt. On May 24, he wore a black visor beanie, sunglasses, a red and white horizontal stripe, long sleeve polo shirt and blue jeans. The suspect is believed to be an African American.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact BSO Robbery detectives at 954-321-4270, or Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-TIPS or www.browardcrimestoppers.org. A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
