Two South Fla. High Schools Make Best In Nation

MIAMI (CBS4) ― When you think of getting a high caliber education in the U.S., Ivy League schools probably come to mind. However, the U.S. News and World Report, has turned a new leaf in finding higher education, America's Best High Schools.

Two South Florida schools made the list as the best in the nation, Miami's own Design and Architectural Senior High (D.A.S.H.) made it to number eight, and New World School of the Arts came in at number 63 on the top 100 list.

U.S. News and World Report based their findings on a three-step analysis; student performance on state tests and adjustability for student circumstances; the success of disadvantaged students, and the level of success the school had in supplying college-level work.

Schools that made the list were placed in three categories. The gold medals were for the top 100; silver medals were given to 405 schools and bronze went to the remaining 1086.

In addition to D.A.S.H. and New World, seven Florida schools were given top rankings as well including International Baccalaureate Program in Bartow Fla.; Pine View School for Gifted in Osprey Fla.; Staton College Preparatory and Paxton School for Advanced Studies in Jacksonville, Fla.; and Suncoast Community High School in Rivera Beach Fla.
