Man Recovering After Truck Rolls, Lands On His Car

The Truck Driver Was Not Hurt

MIRAMAR (CBS4) ― A South Florida driver continues to recuperate in a hospital Tuesday afternoon after an 18-wheeler flipped onto his car in Miramar.

Police say the accident happened as a tractor trailer full of two-liter Coca-Cola bottles fell over on top of a white Honda Civic, trapping the driver of the car, Eduardo Ibarro.

The collision took place on University Drive just underneath the Florida Turnpike before County Line Road around 6:00 a.m.

The southbound lanes of University, between Riviera Boulevard and County Line Road were shutdown for hours as rescue crews carefully removed the trapped driver
from his white car.

"The crews from Miramar Fire Rescue as well as Miami-Dade County Rescue worked diligently for nearly an hour to extricate the patient from the vehicle," said Miramar Battalion Chief Bill Huff. "The patient had significant entrapment in the vehicle; the tractor trailer was actually on top of part of the passenger's department [side], and trapping the patient's leg under the dashboard."

Ibaarro was transferred to Memorial Regional Hospital where he is listed in good condition.

After the accident, crews worked quickly to remove all of the Coca-Cola products that fell.

Police say the driver of the truck was not hurt.
