Legendary rock n' roll pioneer Bo Diddley has become an honorary Gator.
More than two month's after his death, the University of Florida has awarded Diddley a college degree. During a commencement ceremony Saturday in Gainesville, Diddley's daughter, Evelyn Kelly accepted the honor on her father's behalf.
A longtime resident of Alachua County, Diddley was actually nominated for the honor last fall, but because of the lengthy approval process a vote was finally taken after his death.
Born in Mississippi and raised in Chicago, Diddley best known for his songs "Bo Diddley" and "Who Do You Love." His signature shuffle rhythm and edgy guitar were major influences on the music that would later be dubbed rock 'n' roll.
