Boat Owner Okay After Explosion In Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) ― A South Florida boat owner got his Fourth of July off to a bang after his boat exploded on North Lake bay in Hollywood.

The man had just fueled up his 20-foot boat at a dock in the 800 block of Polk Street when the explosion occurred, according to CBS4 news partners The Miami Herald. According to Hollywood Fire Rescue Captain John Kuklinski fumes from the fueling process had built up in the bilge and ignited when the boat's owner started the engine.

Both the owner and his passenger jumped overboard and swam to the dock; neither person was seriously injured.
