Boat With 26 Refugees Found Off Pompano Beach
POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) ―
More than two dozen refugees were picked up off Pompano Beach before they could make landfall.
The U.S. Coast Guard said they received a tip that a disabled vessel was drifting off Pompano Beach's coastline. When a Coast Guard crew arrived they found 26 people on a small boat. All were taken into custody and given food, water and shelter.
Coast Guard investigators said the boat left from the Bahamas, but it was not clear if the refugees were Bahamian.
