Fmr. Miami-Dade Police Director Robert Parker earned a $400 thousand retirement check.
CBS News
After more than three decades with the Miami-Dade Police Department, former director Robert Parker will pocket a hefty check thanks in large part to unused sick and holiday time.
Parker submitted his retirement papers on the same day County Manager Carlos Alvarez announced a five percent pay cut for most non-union employees. Parker said the timing of his retirement was not a coincidence.
"If you're comparing to stay at a five percent pay decrease or retiring at salary and gaining every year a three percent increase in terms of cost of living, so when you look at the total picture it is a simple deduction to go ahead and retire and not take a significant hit in terms of pay," Parker explained.
Before leaving office, Parker had accumulated 58 weeks of unused sick leave and 803 hours of unused holiday time, according to

Miami-Dade Police Assistant Director Jim Loftus has been named the interim Police Director until Mayor Carlos Alvarez names a permanent replacement. Alvarez has said the next director will come from within.
