Boston Scientific To Close Doral Plant
DORAL (CBS4) ―
Boston Scientific, a medical products manufacturer, will close its plant in Doral by 2012 leaving about 1,400 employees out of work, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
Frank Nero, president of the Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County's economic development agency, said the company will move its plant to a facility in Costa Rica to save money on labor costs.
``Anytime you're going to have a loss of that many jobs, it's significant,'' Nero told the newspaper. ``It's never a good thing when we're trying to promote a cluster in life sciences and you lose a company like Boston Scientific. It's just not good.''
The company makes medical devices including ones used by gynecologists, urologists and oncologists. Sales exceeded $8 billion last year.
The company declined the newspaper's request for comment.
