Broward Beaches Unsafe After Fay

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― If you're planning on heading to a Broward County beach this weekend, you'd better make new plans.

The Broward Health Department is advising people stay out of the ocean until at least Wednesday, August 27. The Department is concerned Tropical Storm Fay may have caused damage to the infrastructure near the beaches, causing possible septic and sewage systems to spill and overflow. The possible spillages could cause beach water to carry an increased risk of disease and injury-causing debris.

Miami-Dade County officials say they do not have the same concerns. All Miami-Dade County beaches are open for business.
